1. How do I pronounce anCnoc properly?
It's dead easy, just a-nock. The big C is silent.
2. What does anCnoc mean?
Very simply translates from Gaelic into The Hill.
3. Why 'The Hill', what's the relevance?
When you arrive at the distillery, there is an omnipresent black hill at the back of the distillery. This Hill provides the source of the crystal clear spring waters. The Hill appears black during the seasonal transformation of the Heather and is known as the Black Hill or Knockdhu.
4. Why is anCnoc not named after Knockdhu?
As you would expect, back in the day the Knockdhu distillery produced the Knockdhu Single Malt. A number of years ago a decision was taken to change this name to save any confusion with another similarly named Highland Single Malt.
5. How many people work at the distillery?
There are a total of 7 people at the distillery, including Gordon Bruce the Distillery Manager.
6. What makes anCnoc so special?
Where to start? When anCnoc reaches your lips for the first time, you know you've found something truly special, but don't take our word for it, Jim Murray, the world renowned whisky writer has this to say in his 2008 whisky bible:
Nose 22 - out of 25
- An aggressive pepperiness bites deep into the usual grassy maltiness and coal smoke. Excellent depth and complexity, though slightly more aggressive,
if younger in style than of old.
Taste 23 - out of 25
- absolutely fabulous near-perfect, malt arrival, perhaps the most clean, yet intense of ANY in Scotland. The complexity is staggering with not only
multi layers of malt but a distant peat and oak infusion
Finish 22 - out of 25
- deliciously spicy
Balance 23 - out of 25
- If there is a more complete 12 year old malt on the market, I have yet to find it. A malt that should adorn a shelf in every whisky-drinking home!
TOTAL: 90 (out of 100), which in the score chart equals BRILLIANT!
